Kortney's Reveal

Design by Kortney

The first thing designer Kortney Wilson added to this room was panel molding to the wall behind the bed to counteract the room’s otherwise bland walls and set the tone for her traditional-with-a-twist design. The bed’s tufted headboard, a navy color scheme, and brass accents are classics, but Wilson freshens the look with shibori-inspired artwork and an abstract gold-accented modern rug.

Open-style nightstands have mirrored tops that help reflect light in this small space, while the Sputnik-style chandelier proves that brass doesn’t have to be stuffy. The art, bedding, and rug all blend nicely—a study in how well mixed prints can work when you stick to a tight palette.

“The rug and bed ground the space, while the pops of metallics and glass keep the eye balanced and on the move!” says Wilson.

A hammered finish gives this brass Denton Table Lamp ($190) a handmade look, but the crisp white shade keeps it refined. Mixed patterns in a single color make the Renwil Flint Set of Four Organic Abstract Prints ($328) an easy bundle to work with. The Modway Yaretzi Distressed Southwestern Aztec Area Rug (starting at $98) is not only a showstopper but low pile and stain-resistant, making it perfect for high-traffic areas.
